Doug Hall began his Kenpo training under Sifu Gary Swan in Universal City, TX while in High School. 10 years later after an experience in the US Army he moved to Austin and joined Sifu Swan’s former highest-ranking student and then-IKKA Regional Director Associate Professor, Brian Duffy. Mr Duffy had previously brought SGM Parker to Austin for a seminar where Mr Hall was selected to be utilized as a training partner for Mr Parker for one technique so Mr Duffy had a special attraction to Mr Hall in addition to their shared connection through Sifu Swan.
After 15 years of loyal service as a Brown Belt instructor, webmaster and typesetter (-ish) and twice AOK Central Texas Regional Champion, Mr Duffy informed Mr Hall that Mr Duffy would not teach the Kenpo Extensions prescribed in the 16/20/24 Curriculum that Mr Duffy developed; Mr Hall was accepted as the personal student of Pat Salantri who was in Frank Trejo’s Karate Association at that time. After Mr Trejo’s passing, Mr Hall has remained Mr Salantri’s student and now teaches under Mr Salantri’s own Association, formerly known as OKA (the Open Karate Association) while also being an individual member of the IKKA and wearing Mr Parker’s original IKKA patch.
